Ty Wheeler, Flower Mound: He went 6-for-9 with a double, a triple, two home runs, seven RBIs and six runs scored to help Flower Mound beat El Paso Socorro, two games to one, in a Class 5A Region I semifinal series.
Meghan Knowles, McKinney North: She was 4-for-10 with four RBIs to help McKinney North defeat Waxahachie in the best-of-3 Class 4A Regional II semifinals. In the decisive Game 3, Knowles hit an RBI triple in the first inning and scored in the fifth after a base hit.
Alexis Cantu, Frisco Wakeland: She was 2-for-2 and drove in all five of her team's runs to lead Wakeland to a 5-0 win over Wills Point, the state's seventh- ranked 3A team, in the one-game Region III quarterfinals.
Taylor Jones, Plano East: She was 5-for-6 with a double and two triples as Plano East eliminated Rowlett last week in bi-district. Jones was involved in all five Plano East runs in the two-game sweep.
Lindsey Smith, Bishop Lynch: She drove in eight runs in four games. She went 9-for-13 with two doubles, one triple and two home runs, including a grand slam.
Tomi Garrison, Garland: She hit a game-winning three-run homer into the wind with two outs in the bottom of the seventh in Saturday's 6-4 win over Rowlett. She also earned the win as the starting pitcher, allowing one earned run and four hits.
Kathy Shelton, McKinney North: A leadoff hitter, she reached base on seven out of her eight-at bats last week, including going 4-for-4 in Friday's win over Frisco Centennial.
Travis Cunningham, Rockwall-Heath: He won the 100 and 400 at the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Relays on Friday and the 400 a day later at the Little Elm Lobo Club Invitational.
Lynda Hercules, F, Plano West: She had four goals in two Plano West playoff victories last week.
SportsDay's baseball player of the week: Chad Kettler Coppell's Chad Kettler picked up two saves by striking out nine in a pair of two-inning relief appearances. He did not allow a run and gave up one hit. Also went 4-of-6 at the plate in the two games. He had two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored in a 6-4 win over Hebron.SportsDay's softball player of the week: Samantha Ward South Grand Prairie's Samantha Ward hit her first home run of the season, a game-winning solo shot, in the bottom of the 10th inning in Friday night's 4-3 win over Euless Trinity.
